Bring it on, Martian freaks!

Could you even imagine trying to play with this ref on the field? I'd commit an egregious foul just for the experience of having him show me a red card. Then I'd fall over in hysterics...
Before everyone started swooning over Roberto Carlos's ability to strike a reasonably decent free kick, Dutch great Ronald Koeman was lighting up stadiums with ferocious strikes.

If anyone has ever hit a ball harder than Koeman, it's not been publicly revealed.

How it works:

The funniest thing you'll see today, I promise...

Well, there you have it, David "socca" Beckham's motivations revealed. Not that he didn't already have 250 million reasons...
I mean, "Prince"? "Disney"? "AnniefreakingLeibovitz..."? Please stop, you're killing me. There's so much going on behind the surface of this story you'd need a team of Austrian psychiatrists to sort it all out. There's just not enough time in the day...
Every time you think you've reached the bottom of the sports fan craze, someone digs a little deeper...

The funniest thing I've seen this week, and believe me, I see some pretty funny things in the routine course of work, home, life, etc.

A seemingly serious "Meet the Press" type show devolves instantly into Jerry Springer...hysterical.
I linked to Glenn Reynold's comment a couple of days ago about private jets and limos. He's followed up with lengthier commentary that's less snark, more substance.

I shy away from stuff overtly political, but did she say "I want to take those profits..." ?

An unfortunate turn of a socialist phrase, indeed.
Just Like Heaven

Looking for some more downloadable music last night, mostly The Cure, and I stumbled onto this pretty remake by an artist I'd not heard of.

Here's the video.

And here's the original Cure version.

And...nah, I'm not going to post the Cure video. I saw them a few times live and trust me, those guys aren't that attractive...
OK, now, see, I'm not actually aware that anything like this happens in my staid little upscale suburban community...

Glenn Reynolds offers a comment on private jets, limos, and global warming.
I must admit, I was a little disappointed in this past episode of "24". To be fair, it's tough to maintain the shows frenetic standard when you detonate a nuclear devise in the second episode. It seems clear that the show will spend a few weeks setting up the sub-plots, conspiracies, and of course the obligatory relationship angles.

With all that in mind, feast on the new Carnival of Bauer, which never disappoints!
