Last night the youth soccer club I volunteer for awarded a couple of scholarships to high school seniors in town. I was on hand with several other community groups to make the awards. I always get a little nervous when I speak in front of large groups, but something happened last night that had a calming effect.

The mother of Marine Sgt. David Coullier was also awarding a scholarship in honor of her son, who was killed in Iraq almost 2 years ago. My "nervousness" seemed utterly irrelevant in the face of that...

Anyway, it occurred to me that I hadn't posted anything on Memorial Day, which I usually do. Here's a don't-miss article honoring those who have given all their tomorrows.

And here's a fine round up from mil-blogger Jules Crittenden.

Lileks explains both the proposed immigration bill and the final episode of 24 in one nifty post.

It's another fine podcast on the Glenn and Helen show, building on a previous program they aired about how we so infantilize teens they never really grow up. This time they focus on the effects on our society of the feminization of boys, wondering if we're becoming a nation of wimps. As are many of their podcasts, it's a must listen.

And here's a follow-up post...

Not unrelatedly, here's the latest edition of the Carnival of Education, education being hugely culpable in the anti-boy trends that have taken root in the past decades. More appropriately, then, here's the latest Carnival of Homeschooling. Because let's face it, if you're not supplementing your child's education at home, your kid ain't gonna be ready for nothin' when he or she turns 18. (Ain't gonna know nothin', neither.)

Want to get a closer look at the indoctrination of education? Feast here...

Ah, Becks? That might be illegal use of the hands. Or something.

Mr. and Mrs. Beckham were seen leaving a party several weeks ago looking not quite so polished...
